Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 3 medium potatoes, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp dried thyme (optional)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • ½ cup beef broth (optional, for extra moisture)
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (optional, for a cheesy finish)
  • Fresh parsley or green onions, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Beef

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula.
  3. Drain excess grease if needed and set the beef aside.

Step 2: Cook the Potatoes & Onions

  1. In the same skillet, add olive oil (or butter) and heat over medium heat.
  2. Add diced potatoes and cook for about 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften.
  3. Stir in onions and cook for another 3–4 minutes, until onions are translucent.

Step 3: Combine & Season

  1. Add the garlic, cooked beef, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and thyme. Stir well.
  2. Pour in beef broth (if using) to add moisture and prevent sticking.
  3. Cover and cook on low heat for another 5–7 minutes, or until potatoes are tender.

Step 4: Finish & Serve

 

  1. If using, sprinkle shredded cheese over the top and let it melt.
  2. Garnish with fresh parsley or green onions.
  3. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Use Waxy Potatoes – Yukon Gold or red potatoes hold their shape better.
Don’t Overcrowd the Pan – This helps the potatoes get crispy.
Add a Kick – Try a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes.
Make it a Full Meal – Add bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach for extra nutrition.
