Ingredients
- 1 can apple pie filling (or 2 cups of homemade cooked apples)
- 1 package store-bought pie dough (or homemade if preferred)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp butter (optional, for brushing)
- 1 tbsp milk (optional, for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Filling
- If using store-bought apple pie filling, drain excess liquid and mix with the cinnamon and sugar.
- For homemade apples, peel, chop, and cook them with a little cinnamon and sugar until softened (about 5–7 minutes), then let cool.
Step 2: Prepare the Pie Dough
- Roll out the pie dough on a floured surface and cut it into 4-inch rounds using a cookie cutter or the edge of a glass.
- You should have enough dough for 6–8 hand pies, depending on how large you cut the rounds.
Step 3: Assemble the Hand Pies
- Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the apple filling onto the center of each dough round.
- Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and press the edges together with a fork to seal them.
- If you want a golden finish, lightly brush the top with a little milk or a butter and sprinkle with a little extra sugar.
Step 4: Air Fry
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Lightly spray the basket with non-stick spray or line it with parchment paper.
- Place the hand pies in the air fryer basket in a single layer (you may need to do this in batches depending on the size of your air fryer).
- Air fry for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Flip them halfway through cooking for an even crisp.
Step 5: Serve & Enjoy!
- Once done, remove the pies from the air fryer and let them cool slightly.
- Optionally, dust with powdered sugar for extra sweetness before serving.
Notes
Don’t overfill – Too much filling can cause the pies to burst open.
Brush for golden color – Brushing with butter or milk gives them a golden and crispy texture.
Use store-bought filling – Using canned apple pie filling makes this recipe extra fast and easy, but homemade is always a great option too!
Serve with ice cream – These hand pies are perfect served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
